I felt like I could relate to Zhao’s sculpture as I had been making face casts of myself, but they had been crumbling apart if not handled delicately. I saw this as a flaw in my work however I realise it may just make it stronger. The crumbling of the casts back up my concept of female’s disadvantage of authority over men, in politics this is supported by Margaret Thatcher and her use of low pitched speeches to the public. Zhao’s sculpture was eye opening towards my work and refreshed my mind, as I am playing with restrictions but learning how to deal and work with them. not against. The sculpture is very powerful concerning the Chinese government and I think Zhao has communicated his views successfully in a visual manner, something I hope to achieve with my project.
